FIRST JOURNEYS - 80 GINS AROUND THE WORLD - PIN 01 OF 80
G&TEA 80 DAYS GIN - Cornwall, UK
AROUND THE WORLD, ONE BOTTLE AT A TIME.
PHILEAS FOGG WOULD SURELY APPROVE
Around the world, one bottle at a time. Phileas Fogg would surely approve.
The day has finally come! I'm setting off on my virtual journey around the world, exploring my international gin collection.
It seems only fitting to begin with a brand whose name couldn't be more appropriate – 80 Days Gin from G&Tea. You don't get much more Phileas Fogg than that! I was also delighted to get my hands on one of their newly refreshed bottles just in time for the first stop on my journey.
G&Tea were already well established through their family coffee and tea business, so when they decided to launch a range of gins they wanted to create something a little different.
Working with the team at Colwith Distillery in Cornwall, they developed three distinctive expressions – Cream Tea Gin, The Great Earl Gin and, of course, 80 Days Gin.
Their field-to-bottle gins use a potato base spirit distilled at Colwith from locally grown potatoes, before being infused with carefully selected teas and botanicals sourced from around the world.
The botanical list for 80 Days Gin is a journey in itself, featuring British Gala apples, rose petals from Pakistan, orris root from Hungary, cassia from China and grains of paradise from Côte d'Ivoire, alongside the traditional gin botanicals.
To begin the journey, I'm keeping the serve nice and simple with a classic G&T. Sometimes the best way to appreciate a gin is to let it do the talking.
So, passports at the ready... our first stop is complete. Where shall we travel to tomorrow? 🍸🌍
