FROM THE JOURNAL - COCKTAILS & CURIOSITIES
CHRISTMAS 2021 - COUNTDOWN
So, what's the link today with the maids a milking?
Well, the botanical lineup of Eight Lands Gin includes cowberries. I'd never heard of them before, but they are closely related to bilberries. Unfortunately, I don't have access to either of those, so I went with their closest relative I could find... the humble cranberry... which has made its way in as the garnish!
Glenrinnes Distillery takes inspiration from Ben Rinnes, the mountain that forms the backdrop to their distillery. Legend has it that on a clear day you can see eight regions of Scotland from the summit, which inspired the name Eight Lands for their range of organic spirits.
Now, can you spot the ice? Nope?Well, once again, clear ice is stealing the show in this G&T. I've used a beautiful High Cube, and it really does make a simple serve feel that little bit more special.
A little tip if you are using clear ice (or even regular large ice cubes): let it temper for a few minutes before adding your drink. This helps prevent cracking, which means the ice lasts longer and doesn't break apart and dilute your cocktail too quickly.
Cheers! 🍸
