Today I'm heading north to Iceland, giving me the perfect excuse to revisit the wonderful Winterful Martin Miller's Gin.
Although the gin itself is distilled in England, one of the things that makes Martin Miller's unique is that it's blended with exceptionally pure Icelandic spring water sourced near Borgarnes in western Iceland. Filtered naturally through layers of volcanic rock over centuries, the water is prized for its purity and is an important part of the gin's character.
Borgarnes sits at the gateway to west Iceland, where glaciers, waterfalls, lava fields and geothermal springs create some of the country's most spectacular scenery. It feels like the perfect place to source the final ingredient in a gin that celebrates purity, and it's definitely another destination that's made its way onto my ever-growing travel wish list.
The Winterful Edition builds on the original recipe by adding warming mandarin and festive spices, creating a gin that really does capture the essence of winter. It's the sort of G&T to enjoy curled up in front of a roaring fire—or, even better, soaking in an Icelandic hot spring beneath the dancing Aurora Borealis.
It also works beautifully served warm, so today I've gone for a simple Mulled Gin, using Soho Mixers Blood Orange and a cinnamon stick.
The next stamp in the passport is complete... now, where shall the Atlas take me tomorrow?
